(Nov 1 2019, Pocono Manor, PA) Several dozen fire trucks from six counties responded to an early morning fire at Pocono Manor Resort & Spa today. They spent the rest of the morning trying to control the blaze. The first alarm went out just after 6:30 in the morning, reporting an active fire in the kitchen. Initial reports are that the fire started small -- a chafing dish is believed to have sparked the blaze. It remains unclear where or how it started, although later reports indicated that Pocono Manor management believes that the chafer may have been in the dining room when it started the fire. Wherever it started, it spread very quickly. The northern wing of the main lodge, nearest to Summit Avenue, was quickly engulfed, as was the two-story older addition to the rear of that wing. Shortly before 8 am, the fire had spread through so much of the old, largely wooden structure, that it became too dangerous for firefighters. At 7:56 am, all firefighters were ordered to evacuate the buildings. At that point, the responders worked to contain the fire. By late morning, the entire lodge was in flames.

Crews from Monroe County and neighboring Luzerne, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Northampton, and Carbon counties worked for hours through the morning and into the afternoon.

As of 12:30 pm today, no injuries were reported. The resort was recently closed to the public, but reportedly still had a about two dozen rooms occupied. They had been scheduled to check out today and all were safely evacuated according to Pocono Manor management.

Events had been scheduled through November, after which the resort was set to close for up to two years to remodel and to add an attraction.
