Pennsylvania Acknowledges 268 COVID-19 Cases in 26 Counties, NY Closes all Non-Essential Businesses

Updated: Mar 23

HARRISBURG (MAR 20 2020) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Health today acknowledged 268 cases of COVID-19 infections in Pennsylvania as of yesterday. Earlier this week, the state stopped providing up to date information on the number of infections they acknowledge. They have also stopped telling the public the number of tests administered and the backlog of tests administered which have not been processed. The increase represents a nearly 45% increase over the numbers acknowledged yesterday. Monroe County has 19 cases, adjacent Northampton County has 10, Pike 2, and Wayne has 1 case. Carbon County still has no acknowledged cases, while Lackawanna has 4 and Luzerne 2. In related news, New York's Governor has ordered all non-essential businesses to shut down. Locally, this should result in thousands fewer commuters travelling between New York and Pennsylvania twice daily. For updated information on the Coronavirus outbreak, and to review resources available for businesses and individuals dealing with the shutdown and outbreak, see our new COVID-19 section on our main page.
