Important: November Budget Meetings

Mount Pocono Borough Council will hold public work sessions to discuss the 2020 budget on November 18th, 21st, and 25th at 6 pm.

Typically these meetings are open to the public but the discussions are handled by the Budget and Finance sub-committee. These meetings will include the entire Council body.

Borough Council has not received the 2020 final assessment yet so we are working on a pencil budget to forecast next year's expenses.

Mount Pocono expected to receive $1,065,204.00 in Real Estate Taxes for 2019 (not including the Fire/Ems, Library, and Road Taxes). In 2020, due to the assessment, Mount Pocono can only bring in up to 10% more than the previous year($1,171,724.40). The 2020 Budget needs to land in between the $1,065,204 and $1,171,724.40 window. That final number will determine the millage for 2020 and your property taxes (Municipal, not School taxes).

In recent months we have seen large commercial properties have their assessments reduced significantly (tens of millions of dollars) by the County assessment board. To be clear, as property assessments go DOWN your portion of the 2020 budget goes UP.

Some on Council views this as a "golden opportunity" to raise taxes. You should be concerned and choose to be a part of this process.
