GIANT Food Stores Plans to Open a Pocono Summit Store Next Year
GIANT Food Stores today announced plans for a 66,000 foot store in Pocono Summit opening in 2021.
The announcement came at the Pennsylvania Farm Show as part of the presentation of a huge expansion and remodeling planned for GIANT's Pennsylvania operations in 2020-2021. They hope to open the new store on property at the southwest corner of the intersection of 380 and 940 . . . not far from the 18,000 square-foot Aldi which opened last year.
Company officials said they expect the new store to create as many as 200 permanent jobs. In November, 2019, Giant opened a store of the same size planned for Pocono Summit on the site of the former KMart in East Stroudsburg. According to the company, the East Stroudsburg store employees about 150 people. When opened, the Pocono Summit Giant would be the 5th grocery store on 940 within about 3 miles (including the Walmart).
