Area Federal Courts Shut Down Through May 31
HARRISBURG (APR 8 2020) -- The Chief Judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania today issued an order extending the closure of the District's courts due to the coronavirus epidemic to May 31.
The Middle District is the federal trial-level court covering 33 counties in he middle and northeast of the state, including Monroe County. It has courthouses in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport, and Harrisburg.
The order covers all in-person activity at the courthouses in the district and is an extension of an order issued March 13 which ran to May 12. Certain exceptions can be sought from the Court for limited categories of matters.
The state courts in Monroe County, including magistrate's courts, have been closed to the public for all but emergency matters since March 16. The current state court closure runs until April 30.
